Johnny Herbert (#38-P Audi R8)
“I’m having a good little battle out there. It was a great
start. (During my stint) traffic came into play, sometimes it
worked in our favour and sometimes not. We pitted too soon, then
fought back with the Panoz. The Panoz cars are so quick” (about
the ALMS) “This series is very, very good fun. Picking your way
through back markers with good experienced drivers, you have to
pick your moments at the right time.”
At 2:49, car #1-P Audi R8, overall
leader, into the pits. Tires and fuel, driver change: Rinaldo
Capello. Car #50-P Panoz LMP1 Roadster S (Brabham) takes the
overall lead.
At 2:55, car #50-P Panoz LMP1 Roadster
S, overall leader, into the pits. Fuel only, driver change: Jan
Magnussen. Car #51-P Panoz LMP1 Roadster S (Lagorce)
takes the overall lead.
At 2:57, car #38-P Audi R8, second
overall, into the pits. Tires and fuel, driver change: Andy
Wallace. 20-second penalty for too many people helping the driver
out of the car.
At 2:57, car #26-GTS Saleen S7R into the pits for a black flag for leaking oil on the track. Car is assessed a 20-second penalty while stopped for too many men working on the car. At 3:04, car #1-P Audi R8 (Capello), fourth overall, is slowing on course on the back straight, continues on past pit entrance with a top speed of only 90 mph. Into the pits on the next lap. At 3:06, car #6-GT BMW M3 GTR (Said) passes car #42-GT BMW M3 GTR (Müller) for second in class.
At 3:09, car #51-P Panoz LMP1 Roadster
S, overall leader, into the pits. Fuel only, driver change: Klaus
Graf. Car #2-P Audi R8 (Pirro) takes the overall lead. Car #50-P
Panoz LMP1 Roadster S (Magnussen) moves into second overall.
At 3:10, car #57-P675 Reynard
01Q/Judd, leader in class, into the pits. Tires and fuel, driver
change: John Graham. Retains the class lead.
At 3:15, car #51-P Panoz LMP1 Roadster S (Graf) spun and continues at turn 2.
At 3:15, with one-half hour remaining,
top three in class: #2-P (Pirro) 108 laps, #50-P (Magnussen),
#51-P (Graf) 107 laps; #57-P675 (Graham) 100 laps; #3-GTS
(O’Connell) 99 laps, #4-GTS (Collins), #45-GTS (Altenburg) 96
laps; #43-GT (Ekblom) 98 laps, #6-GT (Said), #42-GT (Müller).
At 3:16, car #44-GTS Dodge Viper GTS-R out of the race with a broken axle.
At 3:20, car #2-P Audi R8 (Pirro),
overall leader, into the pits. Fuel only, no driver change. Car
#50-P Panoz LMP1 Roadster S (Magnussen) takes the overall lead.
At 3:21, car #10-GT BMW M3 GTR (Jonsson)
is slowing on course and stops just off the back straight.
At 3:21, full course yellow.
At 3:24, car #23-GT Porsche 911 GT3-RS into the pits. Tires only, no driver change. At 3:27, green flag.
At 3:38, car #51-P Panoz LMP1 Roadster
S (Graf) spun going into the first turn and continued, along with
the #69-GT Porsche 911 GT3-R (separate incident), which has
stopped in the sand trap.
At 3:39, full course yellow (to
retrieve the #69-GT Porsche 911 GT3-R).
At 3:29, car #22-GT Porsche 911 GT3-RS into the pits. Tires only, no driver change. There will be a one-lap penalty for pitting during closed pits. At 3:33, car #43-GT BMW M3 GTR, leader in class, into the pits. Tires and fuel, no driver change. Car #6-GT BMW M3 GTR (Said) takes the lead in class. At 3:33, car #42-GT BMW M3 GTR into the pits.
