The GT3 Grand Prix of Mosport
THE AMERICAN LE MANS SERIES SUNDAY AUGUST 19, 2001 PIT NOTES: Page 6
Following yesterday's qualifying session,
three American Le Mans Series cars, including two apparent class pole
winners, had their times disallowed by officials of Professional
Sports Car Racing because of technical violations. The cars included
the #5 Reynard 01Q-Judd, which had been the apparent pole winner in
the LMP 675 class; the #42 BMW M3 GTR, the apparent pole winner in the
GT class; and the #16 Riley & Scott MkIIIC-Lincoln, which had
qualified fifth overall. The cars will start today's race at the rear
of the field. The violations included a rear diffuser that was too
high (#5), and ride height that was too low (#42). On the #16, there
were two violations: the rear wing was too high, and there was an
unapproved engine air source.
Because of the disallowed times, the #11
Lola B2K-Nissan inherited the pole position for the LMP 675 class.
Claudia Huertgen had driven the car in qualifying and therefore has
earned her second career pole in the ALMS, with the first one coming
earlier this year at Sebring. She is the only woman ever to win a pole
position in the ALMS. The #43 BMW M3 GTR inherited the pole for the GT
class, giving driver Dirk Muller his 13th career pole in the ALMS.
Muller has won more poles than any driver in any class in ALMS
history.
Bill Auberlen, who suffered a concussion
in yesterday morning's turn nine accident, will not participate in any
further track activities at this event. Tom Milner, owner of BMW Team
PTG, has nominated Joe Foster of Atlanta, Ga., as Auberlen's
replacement in car #10 for this race. Foster has been competing in the
ALMS this season in the #69 Kyser Racing Porsche, but had not been
scheduled to drive the car in this race.
