AT SEBRING, PRESENTED BY DODGE SEBRING INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY - AMERICAN LE MANS SERIES March 12-17, 2001 PIT NOTES - page 3 4:10 P.M. The practice was stopped for approximately 10 minutes so that the #72 Courage C60/Peugeot could be towed in from the back portion of the circuit. The practice resumed at 4:20 p.m. The GTS/GT cars left the circuit at 4:30 p.m. and a Prototype-only practice session started at 4:35 p.m. The session ended at 4:50 p.m. In the closing moments of the session, the #2-LMP 900 Audi R8 driven by Emanuele Pirro set an unofficial track record with a lap of 122.530 mph (1:48.708). The official record of 1:48.825 (122.390) was set by Frank Biela in an Audi R8 in 2000. The final top three from each class for
today's session: GT: #23 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 104.935 (2:06.936); #22 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 104.080 (2:07.978); #10 BMW M3 103.828 (2:08.289). A total of 34 cars participated in today's practice session MORE ENTRY CHANGES: Four drivers from the former Women's Global GT Series, including its last champion, will compete in Friday's race for the new Panoz Racing Series. The new series features equally-prepared Panoz Esperante GT cars and privately-entered Panoz Esperante GTS cars competing in the same race. The series held its first overall event three weeks ago at Road Atlanta, and Friday's race will be the first for the Pro Division. Sonja Bayer of Germany, the 2000 WGGTS champion, will compete in the race as will Milka Duno, Belinda Endress and Audrey Zavodsky. Endress was fastest-qualifier and runner-up finisher in the recent Road Atlanta event. Drivers in the GT class draw to determine which car they drive, just as was done in the WGGTS.
