RACECAR DRIVERS AND LOCAL MEDIA RACE FOR
CHARITY AT ANDRETTI SPEED LAB
The Charity Competition is the Official
Kick-Off of the Audi presents Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta
BRASELTON, GA - Racecar drivers and local media will gear up for the
Audi presents Petit Le Mans this year by competing in a charity fundraiser
race at Andretti Speed Lab on Monday, Oct. 1 from 6-8:30 p.m. The
event is the official kick-off for the Audi presents Petit Le Mans sports
car endurance race Oct. 3-6 at Road Atlanta.
Twenty-five American Le Mans Series drivers, paired with 25 media
personalities, will race the SuperKarts on the SuperTrack (combination of
the adult and junior tracks) at Andretti Speed Lab, located at 11000
Alpharetta Highway in Roswell. Six pairs of drivers and media will
compete in each 15-minute qualifying race, and the top finishers advance
to the 40-minute feature race.
The public is encouraged to come watch the racing and to then compete
against the professional driver's single best lap time for prizes and
tickets to the Audi presents Petit Le Mans.
A portion of the proceeds of the racing fees from this event will go to
the Firemen's Fund to benefit the New York City firefighters who worked to
rescue victims of the terrorist attacks. Local firefighters will
also accept donations from Andretti patrons. "Firefighters and
other safety personnel are very close to our hearts because of their
involvement in motorsports, and we want to do everything we can to help
and support the New York firefighters and their families," says Mike
Swaine, Executive Director of Road Atlanta. "This event is dedicated
to helping them."
The ALMS drivers will sign autographs for patrons throughout the
event. Patrons will also have a chance to win free tickets to the
Audi presents Petit Le Mans throughout the evening and the rest of the
week. Additionally, all of Andretti Speed Lab's other attractions will be
open to the public. A special SuperKart track will be set up in the
infield at Road Atlanta, and race fans will have the opportunity to take
laps for a $2 donation to the Atlanta Big Brothers/Big Sisters. The
Andretti Speed Lab/Road Atlanta track will be open from Noon-6 p.m. on
Thursday, Oct. 4th, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5th, and 9 a.m.-6
p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6.
The Audi presents Petit Le Mans is a 1,000-mile race (with a 10-hour time
