Monterey, CA - September 9,
2001 -By racing hard and staying out of trouble, co-drivers Sascha Maassen
and Lucas Luhr were able to bring the #23 Porsche 911 GT3 RS home in third
place. The racing team of Alex Job Racing, McKenna Porsche had hard work
and consistency pay off for them here at the historic Laguna Seca
racetrack.
The race started under cloud cover and cool track temperatures, something
that hadn't been seen all weekend. The sun burned through the fog about
halfway through the 2 hour, 45 minute race, changing the conditions for
which the cars were prepared.
"The car set-up wasn't exact today, but all of the teams had the same
conditions to deal with," said a worn Lucas Luhr. The car really
wasn't the problem; we gave those BMW V8's all we had."
The matching #22 Porsche 911 GT3 RS of Randy Pobst and Christian Menzel
ran just as hard and had a mistake free race as well, but didn't have
"racing luck" on their side today. Just as the team pitted for
tires and the mandatory driver change, a prototype crashed at the entrance
to pit lane, resulting in a full course yellow, and putting the car a lap
down.
According to co-driver Christian Menzel: "We did have a problem with
the brake bias today, and it was getting worse as the time went on."
We had to adjust it more to the front lap after lap, and it was getting
more difficult to drive. When Randy (Pobst) got in for his stint, it was
already at the end of the adjustment."
"We are still in the points chase, but only by the slimmest of
margins," said team owner Alex Job. "Maassen is still in
contention, but it will take some help for us to win the drivers
championship at the Petit Le Mans. I am proud that our cars ran as well as
they did again today, I think it says volumes of my team and the effort
they put in day after day."
Now in its 13th year of competition, Alex Job Racing (AJR) is one of the
premier independent Porsche teams in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS).
Based in a brand new 16,000 sq. ft. facility in Tavares, Florida, AJR
entries have tallied three victories in the 12 Hours of Sebring, one win
in the 24 Hours of Daytona, ten ALMS wins and captured the 1999 ALMS GT
Driver and Manufacturer Championships.
