ALEX JOB RACING, McKENNA PORSCHE HEAD INTO WORLD FAMOUS LAGUNA SECA ROAD
COURSE WITH OPTIMISIM
Monterey, CA - September 7, 2001 - "Absolutely beautiful" said
Christen Menzel, co-driver in the # 22 Alex Job Racing, McKenna Porsche
911 GT3 RS with Randy Pobst, said upon looking at the race track for the
first time. "Of course, that just about sums up everything about this
race-weekend here in beautiful Northern California."
"We have been quite successful here in the past," said a
cautiously optimistic team owner Alex Job. "The track surface here
tends to be low grip, which means traction off the corners can be limited,
and that tends to favor our cars. As always, we feel well prepared for the
race, and look forward to trying to regain the drivers points lead for
Sascha Maassen. Maassen held the pole here last year in the GT
Class."
Maassen co-drives the matching #23 McKenna Porsche-sponsored 911 GT3 RS
with Lucas Luhr.
After driving the road course for the first time, Menzel said: "I
love this track. At first, I was very cautious, not wanting to make a
mistake, but soon I was able to pick up speed and feel more comfortable.
The corkscrew turn is wonderful."
Located a few miles inland from the famed Pebble Beach Golf Course, Laguna
Seca Raceway's 2.238 mile, 11-turn road course, along with its famous
"corkscrew," has been the site of many historic races over its
40-plus-year history.
Qualifying for the ALMS Monterey Sports Car Championships takes place
Saturday at 4:50 PM PDT. The race will be telecast live on the NBC
television network starting at 4:00 PM EDT on Sunday, September 9. Please
check local listings for the exact time in your area. The 2 hour, 45
minute race, as well as the 20-minute qualifying session will be broadcast
live on the American Le Mans Radio Network. It can be found on the web at www.americanlemans.com.
Now in its 13th year of competition, Alex Job Racing (AJR) is one of the
premier independent Porsche teams in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS).
Based in a brand new 16,000 sq. ft. facility in Tavares, Florida, AJR
entries have tallied three victories in the 12 Hours of Sebring, one win
in the 24 Hours of Daytona, ten ALMS wins and captured the 1999 ALMS GT
Driver and Manufacturer Championships.
