Alex Job Racing, McKenna Porsche Run Hard on Wet Mosport Track But Come Up Dry

Bowmanville, ON - August 19, 2001 - For the first time this year, the #22 911 GT3 RS Alex Job Racing, McKenna Porsche co-driven by Randy Pobst and Christian Menzel out qualified its twin, the #23 co-driven by Sascha Maassen and Lucas Luhr. As usual, the pair lined up next to each other, fourth and fifth on the grid, respectively.

As the green flag signaled the start of the GT 3 Grand Prix of Mosport a heavy rain was falling over the field of 26 cars. A pre race shuffle of cars made things even more interesting, as three cars in the GT class were moved to the back of the pack for various rule violations.

Throughout the race, the #22 911 GT3 RS, the identical #23 and their respective pit crews ran hard and avoided mistakes. The only problem the team faced was an overheating condition in the #22 once the rain stopped. This would force the car to retire with less than 20 minutes left in the two hour, 45 minute race.

"We thought we would be closer to the BMW V8s in the rain," said a disappointed team owner Alex Job. "We had made a bad decision with our choice of rain tires, and the BMWs seemed right on with theirs. Once the rain cleared out though, things went pretty much like we expected. We had no reason to think we could stay with them as they were much faster than us all throughout practice and qualifying once again."

Pobst added: "My car (#22) wasn't as good as we expected in the rain. But as the track dried out and we went to slicks, the car started running higher than normal water temperatures. It felt like the engine dropped a little power as well. Once we had to make the extra pit stop to add water (and fell one lap behind), I tried to support my teammate Lucas as best I could. The water temperature seemed stable until after the next pit stop when Christian got into the car."

By virtue of his GT class win, BMW V8 driver Jörg Müller is now tied with Sascha Maassen for the GT Class points lead with 109 points.

The next American Le Mans Series race is just days away, August 25th with The American Le Mans Series Grand Prix of Mid Ohio. Practice starts on Friday, August 24, with qualifying for the Saturday race beginning at 4:10 PM EST, Friday afternoon.
