Bowmanville, ON - August 16, 2001- If history
repeats itself, the Alex Job Racing, McKenna Porsche racing team will be
in good shape come Sunday afternoon. Driver of the #22 Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Randy Pobst was able to use his Mosport experience here last year by
leading the GT class qualifying, setting fast race lap, and winning the
race. Early season dominance in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) GT class has helped the #23 911 GT3 RS Porsche, and teammates Sascha Maassen and Lucas Luhr, stay ahead of the rival BMW V8 M3s, despite a few disappointing outings. A podium finish two weeks ago in Portland did help extend the duo's point lead. "As we expected, the V8 BMWs are showing even more strength as the season wears on," said team owner Alex Job. "But, we had a very good outing here last year, even in the rain. We are looking forward to a repeat performance no matter what the weather holds in store." "No doubt we had a dream weekend last year," Pobst added. "I am looking forward to getting back on track with my co-driver Christian Menzel here in Canada." "I would like to thank McKenna Porsche for their support this year," Job said. "Without their help, we certainly wouldn't be in the position we are today: Leading the GT class drivers points standings. Practice for the GT 3 Grand Prix at Mosport starts on Friday, August 17th, with qualifying set to take place on Saturday, August 18th at 4:10 PM EDT. The race will be telecast live on NBC starting at 2:00 PM EDT on Sunday, August 19th. Please check your local listings for the exact time and listings for your area. The race, along with qualifying sessions, will be broadcast live starting August 18th on the American Le Mans Radio Network, which can be accessed via the web at www.americanlemans.com. Now in its 13th year of competition, Alex Job Racing (AJR) is one of the premier independent Porsche teams in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). Based in a brand new 16,000 sq. ft. facility in Tavares, Florida, AJR entries have tallied three victories in the 12 Hours of Sebring, one win in the 24 Hours of Daytona, ten ALMS wins and captured the 1999 ALMS GT Driver and Manufacturer Championships. # # # |
