TOMAS ENGE RACES IN EUROPEAN LE MANS SERIES!
Most, Czech Republic, Saturday, 4th August 2001: Czech star Tomas
Enge posted the fourth fastest time in this mornings wet qualifying
practice when he set a time of 1:40.125, behind the Gulf Audi (1:31.831),
ROC Reynard (1:33.954) and the RML Saleen (1:38.127). He will line up for
this afternoons official qualifying confident that he can propel the car
on to the front row of the grid. The involvement of Enge and fellow Czech
Jaroslav Janis in the Coca Cola sponsored Panoz LMP1 in round four of the
European Le Mans Series race taking place in Most, has generated massive
local press and public interest and expectations for the local racing hero
are high.
Whilst Enge is primarily associated with a highly successful career in
single seaters he is no stranger to sportscars and in 1999 set the lap
record at Sebring in the American Le Mans Series, driving a Lola B2K/10
Judd.
With his sights set on a top three position in this years F3000
Championship, Enge was recently invited by Eddie Jordan to test for his F1
team and knows that a good performance this weekend will further reinforce
his racing credentials. His co-pilot in the Panoz, Jaroslav Janis, has no
experience in this field of racing and is excited by the prospect of
driving the Panoz Roadster LMP1 "I have only ever driven a Sportscar
once before" explains Jaroslav Janis. "I have never been behind
the wheel of such a big car before! This is a new and very exciting
opportunity for me to prove myself in the competitive world of sportscar
racing."
