Panoz Motor Sports - Jarama Qualifying Report

EUROPEAN LE MANS SERIES
ROUND TWO, JARAMA, SPAIN

Qualifying - Saturday, 19 May 2001

Panoz Motor Sports' two scarlet LMP 07 prototypes will start tomorrow's second round of the European Le Mans Series from the second and third row of the grid after qualifying in 4th and 5th positions in this afternoon's 30-minute session.

Jan Magnussen of Denmark, qualifying car # 50, set a best time of 1m 23.883 to take 4th position, just eight tenths of a second behind the Gulf Audi.  Team-mate Klaus Graf's fastest time of 1m 24.381 gave car #51 the spot just behind Magnussen.

Jan Magnussen:  "I am happy considering some of the technical problems we've had recently.  I gave it everything and we couldn't have gone much faster today.   At least I didn't have any traffic problems!"

Klaus Graf:  "We had a bit of a problem with downchanging on the paddle shift gear system which stopped me from getting into a good rhythm for the session.  I came in to make a set up change which didn't work for us so I can't say I'm 100% happy with every
thing and I think I could have gone three or four tenths quicker."

David Price, Director of Racing:  "We were closer to the Audis in qualifying than we were at Donington which is quite pleasing but realistically we will struggle in the race to match their pace.   That doesn't mean we won't be trying though."
