The Number 1 Audi R8 of Rinaldo
Capello and Tom Kristensen bounced back to the top of the standings after
setting the fastest time in Combined Qualifying Practice. Biela and Pirro,
who were the quickest in yesterdays test, finished the 30 minute nearly a
second behind their Audi teammates.
As expected the third Audi of Stefan Johansson and Guy Smith made up an all Audi top three, just ahead of the two Panoz, led by the number 50 car of Jan Magnussen and David Brabham. In the smaller LMP 675 class, the Dick Barbour Racing Reynard Judd of De Radigues and Van De Poele was the quickest, posting the 6th fastest time overall for the session. They were also a massive 5.5 seconds quicker than their nearest class rivals. The RML Saleen S7R of Lambert and McKellar was the 7th quickest car of the session overall to head the GTS class. They also went faster than two of the 675 prototype cars. BMW got their act together and took another 1-2 in the thirty minute session, with The number 43 car of Ekblom and Dirk Muller managing to find an extra tenth of a second over their team mates. The top Porsche was the Alex Job Racing entered car of Pobst and Collard, 1.1 seconds behind the top BMW. The GT and GTS cars are back on the track at 15:30 (local) for their 30 minute qualifying session, followed at 16:20 by the two prototype classes.
